No, it's not snowing you idiot, and I don't have dandruff, that's
volcanic ash! All corny humor aside, Dante's Peak is the
better of the two volcano films released in 1997. The other film
being Volcano. It's better for primarily one reason: It's
more realistic and believable. However the effects in both films are
great. Pierce Brosnan plays a volcano expert from the U.S. Geological
Survey and Linda Hamilton plays the mayor of a small Washington State
town. That's where the realism comes in. The story is very
reminiscent of Mt St. Helen. All of the signs are everywhere, so
evacuation must be carried out immediately. However, you have your
usual skeptics and as in most disaster flicks, that helps to set the
stage for the massive panic that is to follow. Drama, action and
effects all compliment each other in this movie to help drive the
story home. |
