A lot of men have heard the expression: "I wouldn't sleep with you if
you were the last man on earth" In Omega Man Charlton Heston finds
out if what they were saying is true. Charlton plays the government
researcher behind the ultimate weapon of mass destruction, a nasty
plague that has ravaged mankind. There are two groups of survivors in
this movie: A dwindling group of immune humans and an infected,
psychopathic mob of light-hating, night dwelling horrible monsters
with absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. The infected nasty
folk are led by Mathias, a fairly smart, charismatic man determined to
destroy the last remnants of the civilization that produced the icky
plague. Heston has a vaccine--but he and the few remaining normals are
outnumbered and outgunned. Heston and his somewhat less than merry
band of survivors plan for the future while roaming through a ravaged
urban landscape, taking what few pleasures their pathetic lives have
left. For every night, they are forced to defend themselves against
the growing mass of plagued meanies. The Omega Man paints a
frightening portrait of hope vs. despair. It ain't a pretty picture,
but it's a pretty good movie. |
